Symptoms

Signs your DPF needs attention

Most DPF problems start with the way the car is used, or with another fault that stops the filter from regenerating. We find the cause first, so you are not back with the same light a few weeks later.

How it works

Diagnose, fix, then clean

01

Diagnose

We read fault codes and live data: soot load, pressure and temperatures.

02

Fix the cause

Faulty sensors, EGR or injector issues sorted so the DPF can work properly.

03

Regenerate or clean

A forced regen if it will clear, or an in-house clean if it is too blocked.

04

Check and advise

We confirm the filter is working and tell you how to keep it clear.

Keep it legal

We fix DPFs. We do not delete them on road cars.

Removing a DPF from a vehicle used on the road is illegal in the UK, and the vehicle will fail its MOT. For road cars and vans, we clean, regenerate and repair the DPF system so it works as it should.

DPF and OPF removal is available only for competition vehicles that are not used on public roads.

FAQs

DPF FAQs

It usually means the diesel particulate filter is filling with soot faster than the car can burn it off. Left too long, the car can go into limp mode and the filter can block completely, so it is worth getting it checked early.

Common causes are lots of short journeys, a faulty pressure or temperature sensor, an EGR or injector problem, or the wrong oil. Cleaning the filter without fixing the cause means it will block again, which is why we diagnose first.

A forced regeneration uses diagnostic equipment to tell the engine to raise exhaust temperatures and burn off the soot in the filter, while the car is in the workshop. It works when the filter is partly blocked and the car is otherwise healthy.

Yes. DPF cleaning is carried out in-house at our workshop in Little Staughton, Bedford.

It depends on the car and what the diagnosis shows. Get in touch with your vehicle details and the symptoms, and we will give you a price.

Not for a road car. Removing a DPF from a vehicle used on the road is illegal in the UK and the vehicle will fail its MOT. We only remove DPFs and OPFs from competition vehicles that are not used on public roads.

Regular longer drives at steady speed help the filter regenerate on its own. Use the correct low-ash oil, fix any engine faults quickly, and do not ignore the warning light.
